Hi everybody!
I hope your summer's going well. I'm really feeling that sun goddess right about now, how about you? Here's your August update!
I've been staying hunkered down in my writer's garret and off the social medias. But work continues full-throttle on Defy the Gods:
- I hired Cole Stephenson as a project manager. That has already lit a fire under my butt—mostly because he's made it so much easier to see all the incompressible steps that are still to come after I finish writing the text!
- All the stretch-goal contributors are working on their expansions for the game, and I'm ready to help them where they need it.
- Awesome Dice sent me some more representative samples of the cuneiform dice—this time with matte finish like I wanted—and they look and feel so good. The matte finish makes them feel like baked clay, just like I'd hoped. The contrast between the glossy black numbers and the terra cotta-color dice is perfect.
- Last but not nearly least, Tony Vasinda, demiurge of Plus One Exp, has filled in shipping costs on BackerKit. You can go place an order on the pre-order store right now!
I'm so excited for this game. Can't wait to show it to you!

Thank you all so much. Wow. We did it. We raised $38,345 for this queer fantasy game. 805 of you stepped up to back it—including a couple who got in just under the wire. You're incredible, all of you.
I'm humbled, amazed. Your support and enthusiasm went far beyond what I expected. You made the impossible possible. This means the world to me. In difficult times, I need this. Clearly, you do too.
Late pledges for the PDF and standard-edition tiers are enabled through noon on July 19th. If you missed the campaign, you can still pledge for nine days!
I've put all my energy into this, and my flame is guttering, so I'm gonna rest for a few days. Then I'll set up the pledge manager in BackerKit and, among many other things, make sure I've got all the pre-backers' info.

You all are amazing.
With just four hours left, we've unlocked the last stretch goal. In fact, we've blown past it by almost a thousand dollars.
Now Ryan gets to write his Sumerian recipe! And I get to write a guide to fantasy ancient Sumer. Both of those will immerse you in the setting even more. And the standard book will get full-color endpapers! All of that, from us to you, with our thanks.
As the timer ticks down, I know there are more people out there who still haven't heard about Defy the Gods. You know who—those folks who would love an ancient-world fantasy game of queer love and defiance. Who need it these days, when the news keeps excavating new lows.

We might actually do it! We might unlock the final stretch goal and get Ryan's Sumerian dinner recipe. As I write this, we're less than $900 away with 20 hours to go. The race is neck and neck!
